NEW LOCATION: ÁRÆÐI COLISEUM

Who: ANYONE
What: the grand opening of the Áræði Coliseum
When: early November (pssh dates)
Where: Tyr's district
Rating: PG-13; please take anything higher than this to a private log!

Tyr volunteered himself to the task of creating a training facility for the Wanderers to explore the powers bestowed upon them by the gods. For the God of Courage and Diplomacy, however, there is far more to such a concept than the simple notion of magic. Today, he unveils the newest attraction in his district: the Áræði Coliseum, where mortals can come to test their mettle in a wide variety of fields.

In Leikrúnhöll, you can find a large facility of smooth, clean surfaces and user-friendly controls to be able to build the right environment to practice your magic safely in. Indestructible targets, magic- or sound-proof rooms, or any other equipment you might need is available by request.

In the Karasuno Courts, you'll find every field or court necessary to play many of Earth's most popular sports, including but by no means limited to football, soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming, tennis, and whatever else you can think of! The necessary equipment is available and a healthy number of Asgardian natives are plenty interested in learning the rules.

But because that's not enough, not by a long shot, the rest of the Áræði Coliseum is filled with a vast assortment of bizarre challenges and gravity defying sports. There's even these strange, empty holes that many people seem to cautiously avoid for fear of whatever they may do. Whatever fun, weird, and potentially dangerous challenge you can think of can likely be found in the coliseum in some fashion. American Ninja Warrior courses? You betcha. Go wild with this one.

Tyr built this place to be fun yet challenging, strenuous but exciting, and most importantly: the more people there together, the better it is. Invite your friends to a race through an inflatable obstacle course or team up to show them who's really the best at badminton. Enjoy yourselves!

[ OOC NOTE: This is the grand opening of the Áræði Coliseum, a new location in Tyr's district that will be available for use from this point forward! We have a bunch of other new locations being added all the time, so please do let us know if you have any questions or ideas!

And as a side note, we have an IC Q&A about the god powers happening here and an OOC Q&A about the god powers happening here if you need any help or have any question! ]

[ Chizuru's gaze travels up.

.. far up. Clearly this sport was not made for the average height of a young woman from Ye Olde Japan.. ]

T.. That high?! [ Her eyes are growing so wide. ] Are you saying the ball has to get all the way up there?
vagabone: (joy)

[He just so happens to be ridiculously tall for a man from his time period and that's fantastic most of the time. Like now.

He's already scooped up one of the balls and is bouncing it from hand to hand. There are more, waiting to be dunked!!]

That's right! The goal is to throw a ball through the hoop. Maybe it's easier than it seems, I have no idea. Real players make it look easy...

[ He may as well have told her to throw that ball straight to the moon, honestly. The basket seems to her like it's just about as far away.. It takes a moment or two before she's snapped out of the surprised staring at it enough to realise he just spoke to her. ]

Well.. Maybe it is easier than it seems..

[ Her tone implies she doubts it. But he was kind enough to show her this, so Chizuru feels like she should at least try it out now! Doing anything else would be rude. ]

Maybe you can show it to me first..? [ Not even because he has a lot more height going on than her, but.. you know. She's never even held a basketball before. ]
vagabone: (an idiot)

[personal profile] vagabone 2019-11-22 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure.

[He aims, he shoots, he... misses. Not by much, gotta give him credit for that! He may have good aim, but throwing a basketball is not the same as arrowing your arm around.

It doesn't seem to faze him any, he simply limps his way over and scoops up the ball for attempt numero dos.]

Like so! In a real game, the teams would be trying to steal the ball from each other... and you're not allowed to hold it while you're running, just bounce it off the ground. I can't remember the rest of the rules.

[ Don't worry - despite the fact that he misses, Chizuru still seems appropriately impressed. She can't even imagine herself coming that close to the basket, so he's still pretty awesome at it in her eyes! ]

So during games they even make it harder to throw the ball like that? Even though it already seems so tough to begin with.. [ She's slowly starting to feel like this may not exactly be the right hobby for her. ] I guess you'd have to practice a lot.

[Maybe not. He shoots, he misses, but he's closer! It bounced off the rim that time...]

They make a lot of money if they do get good enough. The pros, I mean. People love their sport teams.

It's a job?

[ That's an entirely new perspective on this. Then again, she's only used to a very, very traditional concept of jobs.. ]

.. the world you're coming from must be really different than mine. [ Chizuru concludes after a moment of thought. That's the only way she can wrap her head around this, really. ]
vagabone: (faint unease)

[personal profile] vagabone 2019-11-26 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Must be.

[What a strange thought, that his world is the weird one. The minority. A baffling mess. He scoops up the ball and stands there holding it, doing nothing.]

Where are you from, anyway?
tealeafs: (as you bloom again)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-11-27 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm? [ It's not that weird of a question, considering it follows what Chizuru just said, but something about it does apparently manage to surprise her. ] I'm from Japan. Does that exist in your world as well..?
vagabone: (extreme head tilting)

[personal profile] vagabone 2019-11-29 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It does!

[What a relief. It's come to the point where anyone from Earth is practically a neighbor. Can't take anything for granted these days...]

I'm from Mexico. Other side of the world from you... but I would have thought they had sports in Japan too?
tealeafs: (i will watch over our encounter)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-11-30 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Sorry, Héctor, but Chizuru actually has no idea where Mexico is.. so she'll just have to take him by his word about the whole "other side of the world" deal. She doesn't even want to bring up that she hasn't heard of it before since she doesn't want to be rude! ]

.. Really?

[ She looks like she's giving some serious thought as to why he'd think that.. ]

Well, the country is kind of closed off from the rest of the world, so a lot of things that exist out there haven't made it to us.. I think.
vagabone: (extreme head tilting)

[personal profile] vagabone 2019-12-08 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Really? [My, there must be an echo in here.] Maybe we're not from the same place after all. I'd always thought the best fancy modern things come from Japan. Televisions, calculators, those sorts of things.

[...He probably means computers.]
tealeafs: (i will watch over our encounter)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-12-08 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Tele.. visions?

[ From the way she repeats the word, it sounds like it might as well have been in a completely foreign language to her. ]

I'm sorry, but that doesn't sound familiar to me at all. I wonder if the place called Japan you know and the one I come from are just different places that happen to have the same name.. [ Although that would sure be an odd coincidence. ]
vagabone: (wait wait wait)

[personal profile] vagabone 2019-12-12 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[That it would. He's still holding the basketball, now very much distracted.]

Have you thought that you might be from the past? You know, my world's past. Televisions aren't that old, they hadn't been invented when I was alive... heck, we didn't even have radio.
tealeafs: (shedding your petals graciously)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-12-12 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Radio? [ Yeah, that doesn't look like it sounds familiar to her either. ]

That could be so, since I've never heard of either of those things before. [ Chizuru pauses, seemingly overthinking something. Then she gives him a half-awkward, half-hesitant sort of look. ] Um, not to be impolite, but.. I've never heard of skeletons walking or talking where I come from though.

[ Unless that's also some weird newfangled future thing! ]
vagabone: (and I apologize)

[personal profile] vagabone 2019-12-20 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[No offense taken, his grin pops right back up.]

Oh, well, normally the living can't see us. I'm dead, see. Kind of like a ghost! [Is it weird to seem proud of the fact that one is dead? Consider him a weirdo, then.] And we don't visit the living world much. Just once a year, it's the only time we can cross over. It's a real special occasion to us dead guys.
tealeafs: (as you bloom again)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-12-21 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh.. I guess that makes more sense.

[ Maybe she shouldn't find this so normal, but really, considering all the talk of ghosts where she comes from it feels a lot more normal than a walking skeleton.. ]

Then it's probably pretty special for you to be among the living people all the time here, right?
vagabone: (Default)

[personal profile] vagabone 2019-12-24 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs, unwilling to lie.] Not really. Mostly we look forward to it because we can see the living half of our families. Other than that, the dead are just... normal people. I'm not doing much different than I would be normally.

[A whole lot of nothing, really. Then again, entertaining the kiddos in Frigga's hospital is the closest he's come to having a real job in years.]
