INTRO LOG + SKADI CURSE.

FEBRUARY INTRO LOG( FEB 16TH & 17TH )

INTRO: NEW WANDERERS' ARRIVAL!

Our batch of new Wanderers wake this morning, as all new Wanderers have before, on a plush bed with a mild but lingering sense of recent disorientation. Frigg greets them as per normal, though rather than outright escorting Wanderers to the front doors this time, she and Sigyn allow the Wanderers time and space to leave their bed, meet the pantheon, and even depart the palace at their own pace - but not without a warning. All Wanderers must choose a deity to tether to before dawn the next day, or else one of the gods will choose them. This is of grave importance, as that's precisely how long the magic giving them form is able to last untethered before the Mother's own magic overwhelms it.

(Though the gods are more than willing to allow Wanderers to leave, it's worth noting that many a castle servant - natives, born in this land - might see fit to intercede and insist on the choosing of a god before Wanderers step off the Gladsheim Palace grounds.)

Stepping outside, you're greeted by an almost bright and sunny day... Undermined thoroughly by a sharp, biting wind that permeates any small gap in your clothing. I bet the gods might give you a sweater, if you ask. It probably won't even look that absurd, depending on which one you ask. A trail of what seems like stringless balloons float at eye level from just outside the palace door, guiding Wanderers down the path to a notice board just outside the palace grounds. On this notice board, Wanderers find a brief handwritten guide to accessing the city map on their cuffs, specifically denoting the little colored house icons ( ) to help Wanderers make their way to each god's housing.

Also on this board appear to be a variety of job listings, for those who want to get more involved in Asgard as a whole. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, shall we? There's more than enough time for that once you've chosen a god to tether to in the first place.

GOD CURSE: CHARACTER-BUILDING WITH SKADI.

The storm brewing within Skadi is hardly a secret. She was impatient during the gods' supposedly unanimous address, and in the days to follow, Sigyn (with all her desperately good intentions) tried to balm the irritation but only abraded the goddess further still. She attended the Wanderers' arrival purely by the letter of her duty and swept back out the doors as soon as that duty released her, and since then she's been holed up in her temple, her pointy-faced statues positioned just outside as sentinels meant to intimidate mortals away.

They dared to tell her that she does nothing. Nothing for the Wanderers, that is. Nothing to help them grow and self-actualize, as if these 'Wanderers' are so much more important than Asgard itself, which weakens by the day as her fellow gods fling their magic about to overprotect the Wanderers, or even to satisfy their whims. The consensus to draw back some of that wasteful protection would have pleased her, if she weren't so thoroughly fixated on the slight that preceded it.

They want her to help the Wanderers self-actualize? So be it. There's no better way, truly, than to confront and overcome the ways in which you're flawed.

So the morning after arrival day, many Wanderers wake up with a stinging, itching spot somewhere on their body. Maybe their arm, maybe their back, maybe their throat. In that spot, as it turns out, is a set of words in a deep ruddy brown (almost like old blood) under their skin as if tattooed in place. But these aren't just any words - they prey directly into the Wanderer's fears, their regrets, their insecurities, and their mistakes. They're facing down some of the worst things they've ever thought or feared about themselves.

The other gods, of course, are eager and willing to try to relieve the poor Wanderers of these cursed marks... but they find that it's not quite so easy. Wanderers who seek a god's removal of the words find that not only do the words remain, but a new set appears: Flees the truth.

But that's fine = For most Wanderers, these words disappear on their own in a day or two. A handful of unlucky souls find that their marks linger indefinitely, or seem to disappear but return at truly inopportune occasions down the line.

MOD NOTES

This is the February intro log and Skadi's curse, our mini-event for this month!

Skadi's curse is is entirely opt-in - not all Wanderers are affected - and is detailed more fully in the 'This Month's Events' section of the February Bulletin, and you're welcome to direct any follow-up questions to the Bulletin's mod questions top-level.

You've also likely noticed that god jobs are now live! The listings themselves can be found here (same link as within the 'arrival' prompt), with a brief FAQ featured over here.

Who? I dunno. Not sure on all the powers and stuff here for the different Houses and Gods but. Probably the Gods? Or one of them?

[He's not sure which God. Aside from perhaps eliminating some he knows more about. Like Honir. He seems cool and he's all about travel. This doesn't seem to have anything to do with travel so Sora doesn't think it's him, for example. He frowns, glancing back down to his wrist where one of the words is written. Before he glances back up to Riku when the other pats his shoulder.]

The Gods...

( That seems logical, and something Riku had already imagined. But he wanted to know exactly which one of them. He doesn't seem to be surprised that Sora doesn't know the answer as he folds his arms over his chest, thoughtful. )

I guess we could try and go ask if they can remove our marks. If one of them did it, one of them can undo it, right?

( He doesn't even realize how he said 'our marks' instead of 'your marks' or the marks, like talking more in general. Too deep on his own thoughts to even pay attention to what leaves his mouth. Because of that, he just does as if nothing, even shrugging at his own suggestion. )

I dunno if it might be that easy or we might need to wait or do something. I'm not sure how this works. But I mean, me saying it's the Gods is....that's just a guess.

[Yeah. Give him a moment before he clicks. That Riku said 'we' and 'our' there. Meaning Riku is also dealing with this. And Sora knows how Riku feels guilty over his past as it is....

Which has Sora pausing, glancing up to Riku through his mess of bangs.]

You have this too? These words? Are you okay, Riku?

A guess, but let's being honest. If it isn't the Gods doing, they may know what to d-...

( His lips shut tight as soon as he realizes Sora's last words. Still, it doesn't click to him how he screwed things, how a simple word betrayed him. It takes him a few seconds to answer, but before doing so he allows a long sigh escape between his lips. )

Yeah. Not the same words, but I have a reminder of how I screwed things up on my forearm. ( There's a small pause as he places his hand over the mark, even if it's still covered with his glove. ) I'm good while I don't think about it. At least is in a place easy to hide...

You too? Riku....But you aren't good, you're not okay when you do think about it.

[Or at least. That's what Riku implies. Sora glances up to him, worried, through his mess of brown bangs. He knows Riku made mistakes in the past and has regrets. He's worked hard to move on from that and set things right though. So of course this angers him, worries him if Riku's feeling awful about it all still. Again.]

It's okay, Sora. Just like you, there isn't much I can do from here. So I know getting rid of that feeling, or try to fix what makes us feel like that, is hard.

( His smile is sad, more like a fake one. He failed to cheer his friend up, and not only that, but made it worse letting the other know how he was trully feeling. )

I thought I was done. I thought I could control the darkness inside me and fix my mistakes. But, since I ended up here and all I can do about it is think, I'm afraid I'll lose my light.

( And good proof of that is how he was swallowed by the darkness, once again, and he could only allow the emptiness to suffocate him. How he had to be saved by his other self. Now that he thinks about it, what would have happened, if his other self wouldn't have been there? The whole idea makes him shiver. With a shrug he tries to push everything aside. )

Just like you said, some things are easier to say than to do.

It is hard. But....you've done your best to try make up for those mistakes, Riku. I don't think you'll lose your light. I won't let that happen.

[Or at least. So Sora says. Not realizing necessarily how much of that light of Riku's was his own presence, his reassurance and encouragement and optimism he provides his friends by being around and being himself.]

( Riku bites his lower lip as if trying not to say a thing, but the truth is that he tries his best not to smile like an idiot at his words. But he fails and allows a soft laugh to escape his lips. )

Thank you, Sora. I know I did my best, and still now I do. Well, back home at least. But above all else I try to protect that light.

( Which is not entirely a lie. He tries, even if he is the one protected by that light more times than he protects it. )

Just, don't change. I'm sure those we haven't saved yet will find that light, too.

Huh? Don't change? Ah....I hope so. They just need a little help to find it. They're waiting for us.

[Whenever they get back. Sora and Riku would figure it. Once they got Aqua back, she could help them find Ven and wake him up. Then Terra. They just had to make it back first to manage it. Together. Somehow. He does at least feel a little better after talking to Riku though.]
